HC Deb 07 February 1902 vol 102 c666
MR. FULLER (Wiltshire, Westbury)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty, whether, having regard to the distinction which exists in the mode of treating noncommissioned officers and men discharged by purchase from the Army and Marines who have enlisted in the Royal Reserve Regiments in respect of their claims for refund of purchase money, the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty will take stops to remove the restrictions in the Naval Regulations which prevent any refund of purchase money being made unless the man concerned enlists within six months of the date of his discharge by purchase.

MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER

The question whether any modification in the Naval Regulations respecting the refund of purchase money is desirable is under consideration, but the conditions of service in the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines are dissimilar from those in the Army, being based on the long service system, and the practice at present followed in the Army may not be found the most suitable for the Naval Service.
