HC Deb 06 February 1902 vol 102 c522
MR. SHEEHAN (Cork County, Mid.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he will furnish the prices at which tenders for Army serges were accepted, and the names of the firms who were declared contractors; and whether any of these contracts were given to Irish firms.

LORD STANLEY

Prices of tenders are always strictly confidential. Six Yorkshire, one Devon and one Somerset firms were accepted. Four Irish firms were invited to tender, of whom only one tendered, and that at too high a price.

MR. SHEEHAN

Will the noble Lord publish the names of the contractors?

LORD STANLEY

No, Sir.

MR. SHEEHAN

What objection can there be?

CAPTAIN DONELAN

Did the serge tenders come from the north or south of Ireland?

[No answer was returned.]
