§ MR. KEIR HARDIETo ask the President of the Local Government Board whether, with a view to preventing men from being disfranchised who are compelled through lack of employment to go upon relief works, he will recommend that Poor Law authorities, instead of opening stone yards and the like under their own auspices, will subsidise such works as may be started by urban and borough councils.
(Answered by Mr. Walter Long.) I understand the object which the hon. Member has in view, but it does not appear to me that the Poor Law authorities would be empowered to carry out such an arrangement as that contemplated by him.
