HC Deb 08 December 1902 vol 116 c210
MR. NANNETTI

To ask the Postmaster General, in view of the general rule of the service that two or more members of the same family should not be employed in the same office, whether he will explain why in die Belfast telegraph office this is violated; and whether he will take steps to have the rule carried out in that office.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) I find that the relaxation of the usual practice is mainly due to the fact that the majority of vacancies at Belfast are filled by open competitive examination and that when a candidate enters the service under that system inquiry is not always made whether any relatives are already employed in the same office.
