HC Deb 04 December 1902 vol 115 cc1316-7
MR LAMBERT (Devonshire,) South Molton

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if he will state the total amount per diem, including allowances, paid to non-commissioned officers and men now serving in South Africa.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. BRODRICK,) Surrey, Guildford

The non-commissioned officers and men of the regular army serving in South Africa receive the same pay and money allowances as elsewhere. They get in South Africa the benefit of a free grocery ration, and certain other issues in kind are made to them which, if at home, would have to be met out of the money allowance for messing.
