I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he will explain why the Irish Lights Board have not yet lighted the lighthouse on the Rock Angus; and whether the Lights Board has prepared any estimate of the cost of the leading lights that would be required; and, if so, to what it would amount.

As I have already stated in reply to previous Questions, the Commissioners of Irish Lights have explained that they are unable to advise the lighting of Rock Angus unless an extensive system of lights to guide vessels up the Lough to the anchor-ages of Audley and Cross Roads was adopted in conjunction with it. As such a scheme of lighting would, in the opinion of the Commissioners, be solely for the benefit of local trade, they are unable to † See (4) Debates, cxiii., 904. recommend that it should be carried into effect at the expense of the General Lighthouse Fund, and consequently they have not caused any estimates to be prepared.
