HC Deb 04 December 1902 vol 115 cc1328-9
MR. T. W. RUSSELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether, seeing that the Ogilby Estate, county Tyrone, has been in the Landed Estates Court since the year 1882, he can state whether any progress as to the sale to the tenants has been made.

MR. WYNDHAM

I called for a report on this question on Tuesday, but so far have not received it. In February last I was informed that the delay in the settlement of the rental on the estate was due solely to the action of two or three tenants who had resisted the claims of the remaining tenants to certain rights of turbary. I was also informed that a notice was about to be served on the former requiring them to state their objections, which would be adjudicated upon by the Land Judge and the settlement of the rental proceeded with.

MR. T. W. RUSSELL

Has the court any power to compel a refractory minority on a large estate to accept terms of agreement?

MR. WYNDHAM

I do not think so.
