HC Deb 06 August 1902 vol 112 cc780-1
MR. Cullinan (Tipperary, S.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that complaints have been received by the surveyor of income tax claims, Custom House, Dublin, with reference to delay in refunding income tax; and whether steps will be taken to expedite the refunding of claims admitted to be correct.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.)The Comptroller of Inland Revenue at Dublin has doubtless received complaints as to delay in dealing with claims for repayment of income tax, but these are unavoidable so long as it is necessary for persons to prove their title to repayment of income tax. These complaints are for the most part due to delay arising from incomplete information afforded in the first instance by claimants themselves. Every effort is made and will continue to be made by the officials at Dublin to expedite the settlement of these claims.
