HC Deb 05 August 1902 vol 112 c662
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

To ask the Secretary of State for India, in view of the recommendations in the Report of the Famine Commission relative to the condition of hand-loom weavers in various parts of India, will the Government consider the expediency of adopting such measures as will admit of hand-loom weavers being provided with shuttle-looms in place of the hand-loom.

(Answered by Secretary Lard George Hamilton.) I understand that the matter is already receiving attention in India, and that efforts are being made by the local governments in connection with technical instruction to improve the indigenous loom of the country and thereby increase it efficiency.
