HC Deb 01 August 1902 vol 112 c395
MR. CREAN (Cork Co., S.E.)

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, if he will state on what grounds Mr. W. H. Allshire, lately retired from the Bandon (County Cork) Post Office through ill-health, after nearly twenty-six years service, was refused either pension or retiring allowance; and whether, in view of his service and the condition of his health his ease will be reconsidered.

(Answered by Mr. Austen Chamberlain.) Mr. Allshire was reported in April last for certain irregularities for which he would probably have been dismissed. While the matter was under consideration he voluntarily sent in his resignation, which was accepted. In these circumstances he was not eligible for any award under the Superannuation Acts.
