JOYCE (Limerick)I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether he will cause an inquiry to be made as to the refusal of Joseph McMahon second cooper, O, No. 343,437, Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport, to contribute to the support of his wife and thus prevent her from becoming a burden on the rates of the Limerick Union.
§ MR. ARNOLD-FORSTERThe case referred to by the hon. Member has already been brought to the notice of the 35 Admiralty, who have called the attention of the man's commanding officer to it. As the Admiralty have no legal power to authorise compulsory deductions from a man's pay for the maintenance of his relations, they are unable to take further action in the matter.
