HC Deb 13 May 1901 vol 93 c1448
SIR HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if the rolls of those members of Yeomanry and Volunteer corps entitled to the medals for the South African campaign will be prepared by their original regiments, to which many have now returned, or by the units with which they served in the field, and, in the latter case, if he is satisfied that the nominal records kept during the campaign are sufficiently accurate for the purpose; and, further, if, pending the issue of His Majesty's medal, such Yeomen and Volunteers may wear the ribbon, as in the case of the troops at Aldershot.

*MR. BRODRICK

The names of men to receive the medal should be included in the roll of the unit in which they earned the medal, those of men who have become non-effective being shown in red ink. The accuracy of the records can only be judged by actual experience, but I hope that it will be secured by the present method.
