MR. TAYLOR (Lancashire, Radcliffe)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the case of R. Stephenson and Company, Limited, before the Lancashire Chancery Court of Liverpool, on 30th April and 1st May last, in which a clerk at the War Office figures as a company promoter, carrying on business in Victoria Street, London, and three clerks and a lady typewriter (all said to be in his employ) figure as signatories to the memorandum of a company formed by him to purchase for £22,000 a butcher's and meat importer's business in Liverpool bought by him for £8,208; and whether It is in accordance with the regulations of the War Office that one of its clerks should be so carrying on business.
