HC Deb 09 May 1901 vol 93 c1140
MR. HERBERT LEWIS (Flint Boroughs)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty whether there is now any objection to granting a Return showing the amounts paid for the hire of ships for the transport of troops horses, and stores to South Africa.

THE CIVIL LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. PRETYMAN, Suffolk, Woodbridge)

As large engagements for the conveyance of horses and stores are still of almost weekly occurrence, and negotiations are in progress from time to time for the modification of the rates of hire of the transports still employed, it would not be advantageous to the public service at present to publish the terms of hire and freight.
