HC Deb 09 May 1901 vol 93 c1156
MR. SYDNEY BUXTON (Tower Hamlets, Poplar)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether on 24th March the Legislative Council of the Gold Coast passed through all its stages in one sitting a Bill providing for the deportation of the chiefs and headmen of Ashanti; and, if so, what is the object of the Bill, and whether it has received his assent.

I have no information to the effect indicated in the hon. Member's question. His Majesty's Government have, however, approved of the deportation of the principal ringleaders in the recent rising.
