HC Deb 07 May 1901 vol 93 cc934-5
MR. HERBERT ROBERTS (Denbighshire, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether representations have been made to Sir Alfred Milner by a number of the ministers and representative men at Pretoria in favour of a strict regulation or restriction of the liquor traffic in the system of government to be set up in the Transvaal; and whether, having regard to the importance of the licensing question in the future administration of the colony, he is in a position to make any statement on the subject.

MR. J. CHAMBERLAIN

I do not know whether such representations have been made to Sir A. Milner, and I am not in a position to make any statement on the subject, of the importance of which both Sir A. Milner and myself are fully aware.
