HC Deb 07 May 1901 vol 93 c939
SIR ALFRED HICKMAN

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the chief inspector of the locomotive department of the Burma railways has reported that the American locomotives in use there consumed upwards of 35 per cent. more fuel than English locomotives doing the same work, and whether he will cause trials to be made of the consumption of fuel in the American and Belgian locomotives in use on the Egyptian railways.

*VISCOUNT CRANBORNE

The first paragraph of the question has been answered by my noble friend the Secretary of State for India. Lord Cromer will be asked whether a report can be furnished concerning the consumption of fuel in the American and Belgian locomotives.
