HC Deb 06 May 1901 vol 93 c756
MR. HORNER (Lambeth, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the announcement that the French Transatlantic Steamship Company have entered into a contract for the supply of 120,000 tons of Welsh coal and have agreed to pay the 1s. tax.

MR. D. A. THOMAS (Merthyr Tydfil)

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the contract was made six months ago?

SIR HOWARD VINCENT

Not to pay the export duty.

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

My attention has not been called to the matter, but I see nothing improbable in the statement.
