YOXALLI beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, if he will state the custom of the Department regarding the 74 hours of attendance for female sorting clerks and telegraphists, the earliest hour at which they are expected to attend, and up to what period of the evening they can be kept on duty.
§ MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAINAs a general rule female sorting clerks and telegraphists are not required to attend for duty before 6 a.m. or later than 10 p.m.; but where local conditions are favourable it is sometimes thought not necessary strictly to adhere to these hours.
