HC Deb 23 March 1901 vol 91 cc992-3
MR. O'DOIIERTY (Donegal, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he can state the cause of the delay in bringing to trial the complaint lodged by the Strabane (county Tyrone) merchants against the Great Northern Railway Company, Ireland; when this cause was first instituted; and when will the railway commissioners adjudicate on the complaint filed.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

I assume that it is for the parties themselves to bring on the case for trial when it is ready. If the hon. Member will refer to the Report of the Railway and Canal Commissioners, dated 11th February this year, he will see that it was stated that the pleadings were not completed.

MR. O'DOHERTY

Will the right hon. Gentleman request the Agricultural Department to put in force Section 17 of the Act of 1897?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I have no control over the Agricultural Department.
