HC Deb 14 March 1901 vol 90 cc1563-4
MR. LOUGH (Islington, W.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the railway companies continue to refuse to reduce the charges imposed on cyclists for the conveyance of bicycles, in spite of the recommendations of the Board of Trade and the views expressed by its late President to a deputation on the 11th of May last; and whether he will now introduce the legislation to which the late President of the Board then made reference.

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I am not aware of any general reduction of charge adopted by the railway companies. I do not think my right hon. friend promised, legislation on this subject, and I am not prepared to introduce such legislation.

MR. LOUGH

Has the right hon. Gentleman seen the answer of his predecessor?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

Yes, Sir.
