HC Deb 14 March 1901 vol 90 cc1599-600
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether any complaints have recently been made to him of the railway rates on the Midland Great Western Railway of Ireland; whether he is aware that goods for rural parts of Ireland can be got cheaper from America direct to the ports of Sligo and Gal way than per cross-channel steamer from Liverpool, and thence by rail; and whether he proposes to introduce any legislation to cheapen the cost of appeals to the Railway Commissioners.

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

No complaints of the rates of this railway appear to have been received recently, but the Board of Trade will always be happy to consider specific complaints made in pursuance of Section 31 of the Railway and Canal Traffic Act, 1888. The answer to the last paragraph of the question is in the negative.
