§ CAPTAIN JESSEL (St. Pancras, S.)I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he can now give an answer to the petitions of the City of Westminster and other borough councils of London in favour of triennial elections.
§ THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL OOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. WALTER LONG,) Bristol, S.I am now in a position to deal with this matter. Subject to its being shown that the conditions prescribed by Subsection 8 of Section 2 of the Local Government Act have been complied with, I propose generally to assent to the applications made to me to direct that the Metropolitan borough councillors shall all retire together on the ordinary day of election in every third year. A few cases in which objections have been received will of course have to be specially considered.
