§ MR. JOHN O'DONNELLI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he will state the number of emigrants who left Ireland from the 1st January, 1901, to the 31st December of the same year, and how many of the total left the province of Connaught.
§ MR. WYNDHAMThe year 1901 is clearly a misprint for 1900. The number of emigrants from Ireland in the past year was 45,288, of whom 14,060 were from the province of Connaught.
§ MR. JOHN REDMOND (Waterford)May I ask whether that total is larger than the total for 1899, and the total for the year 1899 larger than that for the year 1898?
§ MR. WYNDHAMI believe the hon. Member is correct. The total for the past year is higher than the total for the previous four years, and lower than for several years prior to 1896.
