HC Deb 11 June 1901 vol 97 c97
MR. LOUGH

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether he can state the conditions of service under which officers of the Post Office are employed in the travelling Post Office; whether, in case of railway accidents causing loss of life or injury to these officials, the Department is responsible; and, if so, what are the scales of compensation.

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN,) Worcestershire, E.

The conditions of service under which officers of the Post Office are employed in the travelling Post Office are the same as those in force in other sections of the Post Office, except that, when travelling, the officers are granted a trip allowance in addition to their ordinary salaries. In case of accidents on the railway causing loss of life or injury the officers of the Post Office are in the same position as ordinary passengers, and have the same remedy against the railway companies.
