HC Deb 07 June 1901 vol 94 cc1319-20
MR. HERBERT LEWIS (Flint Boroughs)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can state how much has been paid for demurrage to the owners of hired transports since September, 1899.

MR. BRODRICK

I am afraid the hon. Member is under some misapprehension. There is no demurrage on hired transports, which are paid for at so much per ton per month. If the hon. Member refers to cargo ships, I will try to obtain the information.

MR. D. A. THOMAS (Merthyr Tydvil)

Will the right hon. Gentleman also say what despatch money has been received as a set-off against demurrage?

MR. BRODRICK

I am afraid I cannot answer that.
