HC Deb 07 June 1901 vol 94 cc1326-7
MR. COHEN (Islington, E.)

On behalf of my hon. friend the Member for North Islington, I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that, owing to the delay in settling the Cheque Bank claims, small holders are being induced to part with their claims at a loss, and whether any steps are possible on the part of the Board of Trade to prevent this.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. GERALD BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

I am afraid I can add nothing to the reply which I gave the hon. Member for North Islington in answer to his question on the 10th of May.† As no compulsory order has been made the Board of Trade have no control over the liquidators, and I am therefore unable to take any steps to expedite the distribution of the funds.
