HC Deb 06 June 1901 vol 94 cc1214-5
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that when the Reserve regiment of Lancers was disbanded on 25th March a sum of £219 stood to the credit of the canteen fund; and whether, seeing that the men were charged barrack damages monthly, and that no clothes were given to them when disbanded, he can state how this sum to which the men were entitled has been disposed of.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. BRODRICK, Surrey, Guildford)

The total available credit on the 6th March, after deducting outstanding liabilities, was £157 1s. 10d. Out of this sum an amount of £125 5s. 4d. has been paid on camp, barrack, and saddlery damages and deficiencies, and rent of soldiers' boxes. The sum of £31 16s. 6d. is therefore available for expenditure when the value of the stock has been realised.
