HC Deb 23 July 1901 vol 97 c1323
MR. FLYNN (Cork, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether the military authorities in South Africa have issued orders for the clearing of all farms situated within a certain area between the Tugela River and Sundays River; and, if so, does this order involve the burning of houses and farm buildings, or merely the destruction of barns and of farm produce generally.

MR. BRODRICK

Instructions have been issued to the farmers in the district of the Upper Tugela to remove their stock in the event of marauding parties of the enemy crossing the frontier. There is no question of burning farm buildings or destruction.
