I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can say what was the estimated total amount of abatements to which income-tax payers were entitled during the year ending the 31st March, 1900; and what was the total amount actually paid to suck persons during the same period.

It is not possible to give the information asked for in the first part of the question, as the Board of Inland Revenue can have no knowledge of any title to abatement unless a claim be made in respect of it. The amount actually paid was £313,656.
