I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can state when it is proposed to release from military duty those members of the Post Office staff who, in response to an official application dated 12th April, 1900, are at present serving in South Africa with the 24th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers; and whether, seeing that capable officers could be obtained to take their places, he will cause instructions to be issued that the terms of the Army Order, No. 252, Section 8, relative to the return of Volunteer companies issued by the Commander-in-Chief in South Africa on 24th December, 1900, shall be applicable to such Post Office servants as may be desirous of returning to their civil duties.

One hundred Post Office employees sailed on the 6th July to South Africa to replace time expired Post Office employees.
