HC Deb 16 July 1901 vol 97 cc594-5
SIR J. FERGUSSON (Manchester, N.E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether "Sell's Abbreviated Telegraph Addresses" is now recognized officially as authentic, and, if so, why copies of this book are not supplied to telegraph offices, so that the public may have the benefit of it.

THE FINANCIAL SECERETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN,) Worcestershire, E.

The Post Office supplies Mr. Sell with the abbreviated telegraph addresses of persons or firms who are willing to allow the addresses to appear in his list, but the Department does not undertake any responsibility beyond this. The directory is not supplied to telegraph offices because it is not required for office use.
