I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the British North Borneo Company are constructing a line of railway from the coast at Jesselton to Tenom, in the interior, a distance of 110 miles, and will he say when the line will be completed.

His Majesty's Government are aware that the British North Borneo Company are constructing a line of railway 110 miles in length, comprising ninety miles from Jesselton, in Gaya Bay, to Tenom, in the interior, and a branch of twenty miles from Beaufort, a station on the Padas River, to Weston, in Brunei Bay. It is anticipated that 100 miles will be competed by the end of this year, and the balance by the middle of 1902.
