HC Deb 12 July 1901 vol 97 c259
SIR THOMAS ESMONDE (Wexford, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he is aware that it is not possible for tenant farmers in Ireland to obtain a loan for the building of dwelling houses from the Board of Works for a longer period than twenty-one years, and if he will endeavour to have the period for such loans extended to forty-two years.

MR. WYNDHAM

Loans to tenants for dwelling houses under the 31st section of the Land Law Act, 1881, are repayable in twenty-two not twenty-one years. The period was fixed by the Treasury, and the Government has no reason for believing that it presses hardly on borrowers.
