HC Deb 21 February 1901 vol 89 cc669-70
* MR. BEAUMONT (Northumberland, Hexham)

I beg to ask the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether the horses purchased in Hungary as remounts for South Africa included a number of young unseasoned horses, and mares too old even for breeding purposes; and whether the officer responsible for the purchase of these animals is still employed in buying remounts for the British Army.

LORD STANLEY

The answer to the first paragraph of the hon. Member's question is in the negative. Two officers of the Department have been employed in Hungary; one of these is still there.
