HC Deb 17 August 1901 vol 99 cc1301-2
MR. MURPHY (Kerry, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he proposes to give instructions to the police force in Ireland to desist from taking down the names and otherwise interfering with persons attending meetings of the United Irish League while Parliament is not sitting.

MR. WYNDHAM

The police do not interfere with meetings of the League unless they have good reason to believe that the object of a meeting is the advocacy of illegal practices. The same policy will be adopted when Parliament is not sitting.
