HC Deb 16 August 1901 vol 99 c1174
MR. GILHOOLY (Cork County, W.)

I beg to ask Mr. Solicitor General for Ireland whether he is aware that the Cork County Council refused to pay £9 4s. expenses incurred by the police authorities in following from Cork, and arresting in London, a man named Cornelius Sullivan; can he state under what authority the police made the demand, and whether it will be persisted in.

MR. WYNDHAM

The county council has refused to repay this amount, which, under the circumstances, will be deducted from the moneys payable to the council out of the Local Taxation Account. The expenses incurred in the pursuit and apprehension of offenders are chargeable to the county under the provisions of Section 4 of the 14 and 15 Vict., cap. 85.
