HC Deb 30 April 1901 vol 93 c259
*MR. NORMAN (Wolverhampton, S.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any communications have passed between His Majesty's Government and other Governments with regard to the movements of French troops in and towards the dominions of the Sultan of Morocco, and whether he can give the House any information upon the subject.

*THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (viscount CRANBORNE, Rochester)

His Majesty's Government have received no information that French troops have entered the dominions of the Sultan of Morocco. It has, on the contrary, been stated more than once by the French Government that the recent operations on the eastern frontier of Morocco have been undertaken, not from any hostility to that country, but in order to prevent the recurrence of attacks from the nomad tribes which infest its borders.
