HC Deb 26 April 1901 vol 92 cc1443-4
MR. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the profits arising from the State Railways in Now Zealand for last year amounted to £1,621,000 sterling; and whether the Government will consider the advisability of adopting a similar system in Ireland, with a view to reduce taxation and to increase transit facilities.

MR. WYNDHAM

At my right hon. friend's request, I will reply to this question. The net receipts of the Govern- ment railways in New Zealand for the year ended 31st March, 1900, amounted to £571,533. In answer to the second paragraph, I have nothing to add, at present, to the statement already made by me.
