HC Deb 26 April 1901 vol 92 c1442
MR. W. F. D. SMITH

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney General whether he can state to what date has the application of the compulsory clauses of the Land Transfer Act, 1897, to the City of London been postponed, and why has any postponement taken place.

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir ROBERT FINLAY,) Inverness Burghs

The postponement operates until 1st January, 1902. The Lord Chancellor received a deputation from the City last February, who signified that objections had been raised to the application of the Act to the city; the Lord Chancellor considered that time was required to receive and consider the details of such objections, and agreed to recommend the postponement accordingly.
