§ MR. BOLAND (Kerry, S.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in filling up the vacancy on the judicial bench of Mauritius caused by the death of Mr. Justice Smith, regard will be paid to the necessity of appointing a judge who has a competent knowledge of the French language, in view of the fact that French is the recognised language of that colony.
§ MR. J. CHAMBERLAINA knowledge of French is always regarded as an important qualification for appointment to the bench of the Supreme Court of Mauritius.
