HC Deb 02 April 1901 vol 92 cc490-1
MR. JOHN REDMOND (Waterford)

I beg to ask, without notice, which I trust is not required, whether the Government have any real intention this session to deal, as they said they intended to deal in the King's Speech, with the question of Irish land purchase; and if they have such an intention, when they propose to lay their proposals before the House.

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

The general scheme of legislation announced in the Speech from the Throne must depend on the general progress of business, and it would be impossible to give specific pledges now.

MR. JOHN REDMOND

Has the right hon. Gentleman any serious intention of introducing legislation in accordance with the declaration in the King's Speech?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

If I am to define that as asking what are the intentions of the Government, I may say I still hope to be able to carry out the programme of legislation indicated.
