HC Deb 17 May 1900 vol 83 c408
MR. YERBURGH (Chester)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the delay in obtaining compensation from the French Government in respect of the Waima incident is due to the fact that the question, with the consent of both parties, has been included among more general negotiations.

* MR. BRODRICK

Her Majesty's Government are desirous of settling the questions of claims in respect of incidents in West Africa which are outstanding between this country and France, of which the Waima case is one. Terms of settlement by arbitration were made to the French Government in March last, to which an answer is awaited.
