HOGAN (Tipperary, Mid)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the difficulties that arose in connection with the proposal of the Eastern Extension Company to lay a cable from South Africa to Australia have now been adjusted; and whether the opposition of the Imperial and Colonial Governments concerned in the construction of the Pacific cable has been withdrawn; and, if so, what is the nature of the compromise that has been arrived at.
