MR. HERBERT ROBERTS (Denbighshire, W.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that the Government of Madras has recently departed from the usual practice in the appointment of the successor of Sir S. Subramania Aiger (at present on leave) as judge of the Madras High Court; and whether he will state whether there are any special reasons for not appointing an Indian judge, as usual, under such circumstances.
§ LORD G. HAMILTONThe appointment of an acting judge of the Madras High Court is vested by Act of Parliament in the Governor of Madras in Council. I have no information as to the reasons which guided that Government in the exercise of their discretion.
