YERBURGH (Chester)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Shanghai Customs Taotai has refused to permit a British steamer of the ordinary river steamer type to trade between Shanghai and Tinghai, the chief town in the Chusan Islands, under the inland steam navigation regulations; and whether the British Legation has protested against the action taken by the Taotai; and, if so, what reply has been made by the Tsung li Yamen to the protest.
