HC Deb 03 May 1900 vol 82 cc579-80
CAPTAIN NORTON

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether, seeing that soldiers' haversacks are issued of a white colour from the Army Clothing Department, but have to be dyed khaki when troops embark for field service, at a cost of fourpence, which cost is borne by the soldier, he will consider the advisability of having khaki coloured haversacks issued, or having; the cost of the dyeing defrayed by the State.

* MR. WYNDHAM

All claims put forward by units for charges for dyeing have been sanctioned, and no charge should fall on the soldier. The question of adopting a haversack of neutral tint is under consideration.
