HC Deb 01 May 1900 vol 82 c417
MR. SWIFT MACNEILL

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether he can inform the House of the terms of the oath of allegiance enforced by the proclamation of Lord Roberts on Free Staters willing to remain in those portions of the Republic in occupation of the British forces.

* MR. WYNDHAM

There is no knowledge at the War Office of any oath of allegiance having been imposed. I am informed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies that Lord Roberts has issued a proclamation proscribing to those who remain under our protection an oath that they will not again take arms against us; its exact terms have not been reported.
