HC Deb 01 May 1900 vol 82 cc416-7
* SIR CHARLES DILKE (Gloucestershire, Forest of Dean)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War what is the number of men of the Militia Reserve who have been examined during hostilities with the view to discover fitness for service with their line units, and what the number who have been found unfit or discovered to be absentees.

* MR. WYNDHAM

The point raised by the hon. Baronet is one of interest and importance. I therefore regret that I cannot give him the information for which he has asked. To obtain these figures it would be necessary in many cases to refer to the regiments in South Africa, who have taken all their documents with them. It is not considered expedient to impose the compilation of such a Return on either the officer's at the front or in the regimental districts at the present time.
