HC Deb 01 May 1900 vol 82 c424
MR. FIELD (Dublin, St. Patrick)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he has any information to show that the recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Norfolk is traceable to the former outbreak, and what is approximately the number of animals affected, and the nature of the disease; and whether the usual precautions to prevent infection have been adopted.

* MR. LONG

So far as my inquiries have at present proceeded I am unable to say what is the connection, if any, between the present outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Norfolk and those which occurred earlier in the year. Two herds of twenty-one and forty head of cattle are involved in the outbreak, but the disease has actually appeared in the former only. Every possible precaution is being taken to prevent the spread of infection.
